We’re looking for a couple of part-time people.

Associate Editor

You’d handle the daily publishing schedule and be the last person to look at stories before they go live. Editing, publishing, keeping things moving, and helping shape coverage across city news, schools, business, sports, public safety, and life in town.

About 15–20 hours a week. $22 an hour to start.

Journalist – Business, Sports & Life in Town

You’d cover local business, high school and youth sports, and life in town — the shops, restaurants, events, and neighborhoods people actually care about.

Flexible hours, consistent weekly work. $22 an hour to start (or an equivalent per-story rate).

Sports contributor — El Segundo High School

Cover selected big varsity matches for El Segundo High School (men’s and women’s): football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, water polo, lacrosse and other assigned sports. Stay through the end; collect the final score, 3–5 notes, 1–2 short quotes and 6–10 photos. Send everything within an hour using our simple template. You do not write the full article — we handle that and publish under Staff.

Flexible assignments; typically 2 hours per game. $22/hour (typically 2 hours per game = $44).

El Segundo High School and away games when practical. Start as soon as you’re available.

Send a short note, availability and any relevant experience to jobs@elsegundojournal.com. Use the shared application form.

We train you

You don’t need prior journalism experience. You need to be careful, curious, and able to put in a few hours a week. We’ll show you the rest. Students, longtime residents, parents, retirees — if you’re interested, apply.

How it works: send a note, we do a short call, then a trial week. Most people hear back within a few days.

Sports contributors should be reliable, on time, comfortable approaching players or coaches briefly after a game, and able to take decent phone photos.
