Extreme heat warning covers LA County beaches through October 8
High temperatures are forecast for Los Angeles County Beaches during an extreme heat warning ending October 8. Public Health advises people to stay cool, stay hydrated and check those at higher risk of heat-related illness.
The National Weather Service issued an extreme heat warning from Friday, October 2, through Thursday, October 8. Los Angeles County Beaches are among the areas where high temperatures are forecast, according to LA County Public Health.
Why it matters: Public Health says dangerously hot weather raises the risk of heat-related illness for everyone.
Public Health says to drink water throughout the day, even when not thirsty. People going outside should avoid the hottest hours and wear lightweight, light-colored clothes, a hat or sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher.
Check people and pets at higher risk of heat-related illness, including older adults, children, pregnant people, people with chronic conditions, those who live alone, outdoor workers and athletes. Never leave children or pets in a vehicle, even briefly. Call 911 if one is alone in a vehicle.
People without air conditioning can take cool showers or baths and use the stove and oven less. They can also visit a library, cooling center, shopping mall or other air-conditioned space; call 211 for help finding one. Residents can check conditions for their city on the National Weather Service HeatRisk map.
Call 911 for confusion, fainting, hot red skin, a body temperature of 103°F or higher, a fast and strong pulse, headache, dizziness or nausea.
What’s next: The extreme heat warning runs through Thursday, October 8.
